Mummy MOT® Haywards Heath - The Specialist Postnatal Check You Deserve
WONDERING IF YOUR BODY HAS RECOVERED PROPERLY AFTER BIRTH?
Up to half of all women experience pelvic floor or abdominal muscle weakness after pregnancy, and around a third still have a tummy gap (diastasis recti) at eight weeks postnatal. Many women are told these things are “normal”, but common doesn’t mean normal.
At The Health Hub in Haywards Heath, your Mummy MOT® is delivered by Jodie Pargeter, our specialist Women’s Health Physiotherapist and a fully certified Mummy MOT® practitioner with over 20 years of physiotherapy experience.
The Mummy MOT® gives you a clear, honest assessment of how your body has recovered — and a personalised plan to help you get back to feeling like yourself.

WHAT IS A MUMMY MOT®?
The Mummy MOT® is the UK’s original and most trusted postnatal assessment, developed by leading pelvic health physiotherapists and delivered by certified practitioners across the country. More than 150,000 Mummy MOT® assessments have been carried out since 2011.
It’s a one-hour specialist appointment designed to check the health of your pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, posture, breathing and movement after birth and to identify any issues that may be holding you back.
The Mummy MOT® is recommended from 6 weeks postnatal once you’ve had your GP check, but it’s never too late. We regularly see women whose babies are now toddlers, teenagers or even adults and who still feel disconnected from their core, are managing ongoing leakage, or want to safely return to running, lifting or sport.
WHO IS A MUMMY MOT® FOR?
The Mummy MOT® is suitable for any woman who has given birth, whether recently or many years ago. It’s particularly valuable if you:
- Want to return to running, the gym or sport after birth
- Feel disconnected from your core or pelvic floor
- Have had a caesarean section or assisted delivery
- Are experiencing back, hip or pelvic pain
- Leak when you cough, sneeze, exercise or laugh
- Still look or feel “pregnant” months after birth
- Notice doming, bulging or a gap in your tummy when you sit up
- Feel heaviness, dragging or pressure in your pelvis
- Aren’t sure where to start with postnatal recovery
Even if you don’t have specific symptoms, the Mummy MOT® is a powerful way to check in with your body, build confidence and prevent issues developing later.
WHAT DOES A MUMMY MOT® ASSESSMENT INCLUDE?
Your one-hour appointment with Jodie includes a full clinical assessment, with everything explained at each step. You’ll be in a private, calm setting, and you control the pace of the session.
The Mummy MOT® assessment covers:
- A detailed discussion of your pregnancy, birth and recovery so far
- Postural screening to identify imbalances or changes since pregnancy
- Pelvic floor muscle assessment – internal where appropriate, external where preferred
- Abdominal muscle examination to check for diastasis recti (separation of the tummy muscles)
- Screening for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction
- Movement and functional assessment – how your body manages the demands of motherhood
- Scar assessment if you’ve had a caesarean or perineal trauma
Jodie will explain everything clearly throughout and answer your questions. Nothing is rushed.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOUR MUMMY MOT®?
You won’t leave wondering what to do next. After your assessment, you’ll receive:
- A clear explanation of what was found – what’s normal, what isn’t, and why
- A bespoke rehabilitation programme tailored to your body, goals and lifestyle
- Education and advice on safe daily activities – lifting your baby, carrying car seats, pushing the buggy
- A clear pathway for returning to exercise, running or sport when you’re ready
- The option of follow-up sessions if further hands-on treatment or rehab is needed
You’ll leave knowing what’s going on, what to do about it, and that you’re not making it up.
COMMON DOESN'T MEAN NORMAL
Too many women are told that symptoms like leakage, prolapse sensations, tummy doming or pelvic pain are simply “part of being a mum.” They aren’t.
These symptoms are common, yes, but they’re not something you have to live with. With the right assessment and the right rehabilitation plan, the vast majority of postnatal symptoms can be significantly improved, often resolved entirely.
The Mummy MOT® is the starting point for that recovery.
WHAT THE MUMMY MOT® CAN HELP IDENTIFY AND TREAT
The Mummy MOT® assessment can help identify and create a treatment plan for a wide range of postnatal concerns, including:
- Diastasis recti (abdominal separation)
- Pelvic floor dysfunction and weakness
- Urinary incontinence (leaking)
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Faecal incontinence and bowel concerns
- Pelvic girdle pain (PGP)
- Postnatal back, hip or coccyx pain
- C-section scar tightness, sensitivity or adhesion
- Perineal scar concerns
- Pain during intercourse
- Difficulty activating your core
- Loss of confidence returning to exercise
Where ongoing treatment is needed, Jodie will work with you on a tailored plan that may include hands-on physiotherapy, pelvic floor rehabilitation, APPI Clinical Pilates, diagnostic ultrasound to visualise deep core activation, and integration with our scar massage or LymphaTouch Pro services where relevant.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re considering booking the Mummy MOT® in Haywards Heath, here are some of the most common questions we’re asked.
- What is a Mummy MOT®?
-
The Mummy MOT® is the UK’s original specialist postnatal physiotherapy assessment, developed by leading pelvic health experts. It checks your pelvic floor, abdominal separation (diastasis recti), posture, breathing and movement, and provides a tailored rehab plan.
- How soon after birth can I have a Mummy MOT®?
-
The Mummy MOT® is recommended from 6 weeks postnatally, once you’ve had your GP check. It’s never too late, we regularly see women months or years after birth.
- How long is the appointment?
-
The Mummy MOT® assessment is one hour. You’ll leave with a clear understanding and a tailored rehabilitation plan.
- Is the Mummy MOT® the same as the NHS 6-week check?
-
No. The NHS 6-week check is a general GP review focused on your overall recovery, mental health, contraception and your baby’s wellbeing. The Mummy MOT® is a detailed physical assessment of your pelvic floor, abdominal separation, posture and movement, with a personalised rehab plan. They complement each other; they aren’t a substitute.
- Do I need a GP referral?
-
No, you can book your Mummy MOT® directly. If you’re claiming through private medical insurance, your insurer may require authorisation before treatment.
- What should I wear to my appointment?
-
Comfortable clothing you can move in; leggings or stretchy trousers and a comfortable top work well. We have a private room for assessment.
- Can I bring my baby?
-
Yes, you’re welcome to bring your baby with you to your appointment. We have space for a pram and somewhere comfortable to feed if needed.
- Can the Mummy MOT® help years after birth?
-
Yes. Postnatal symptoms don’t disappear on their own; many women find significant improvement months or years after their original birth. It’s never too late to address pelvic floor, core or scar concerns.
