Are you suffering from knee pain?

Knee pain is one of the most common conditions we see among patients of all ages. A painful knee can be the result of an injury or a medical condition such as osteoarthritis. Indeed, many people will have been told the pain is due to ‘wear and tear’ of the joint, and that rest, painkillers or surgery are the only options. We disagree. If you are experiencing persistent, recurring or debilitating knee pain that interferes with your daily life, our team of physiotherapistschiropractorsosteopathssports massage and massage therapists can help reduce your symptoms and bring relief.

What does Knee Pain feel like?

The knee is one of the body’s major weight-bearing joints; it’s a complex joint made up of bones, ligaments, muscles, tendons and cartilage, enabling the body to stabilise by moving back and forth, rotating and twisting.  Pain can be felt in and around any part of the knee, and the location and severity of the pain can vary depending on the cause. You may feel:

  • Redness, swelling and stiffness in the knee joint
  • Weakness, instability or the knee ‘giving out’
  • A popping or crunching noise
  • Inability to fully extend or flex the knee

If you are suffering from a painful knee, we highly recommend that you obtain a skilled assessment and diagnosis from an experienced physiotherapist, chiropractor, or osteopath. Your knee pain may have a specific cause such as an ACL injury, knee bursitis, patellar tendinitis, patellar femoral pain or arthritis. At The Health Hub, our skilled team of therapists use a range of tools and tests to diagnose the reason for your pain and suggest the best treatment options for you.

How to ease knee pain?

Knee pain can be a complex and painful condition. In addition to seeking professional help, there are things you can do at home to ease your symptoms.

  • Follow RICE – rest, ice, gentle compression and elevation. After 48 hours, you can use a heat pack or a warm bath to relieve joint stiffness.
  • Consult your pharmacist about the most suitable anti-inflammatory painkillers. If you have just injured your knee and cannot weight bear, use crutches if needed and avoid putting weight on the painful knee.
  • When the pain is better, use gentle exercises such as leg extensions to strengthen the muscles around the knee. Ask our therapists to devise an exercise programme that is safe to do on a regular basis.

Absolutely brilliant after having loads of treatment via the NHS that failed Sam sorted my shoulder out in very few visits. I would and do recommend this practise to all my friends.

I had a great sports/therapeutic massage with Tina Towler today. This was exceptional and I used Sam for back issues in the past. The Health Hub is exceptional in decor and organisation. It was a really good vibe it there today with loads on street parking available just outside. Great experience, thank you for today. Lovely place to go to.

I cannot recommend the Health Hub highly enough. I visited just over a year ago after my doctor couldn’t help with a postnatal problem and ended up worsening my symptoms. I was in despair. Jodie came to my rescue. She was so knowledgeable about my situation and knew exactly what to do to help me recover. I dont know what I would have done without her. A big thank you to her and her amazing team.

Kylie Lockwood

Everyone is so welcoming & friendly. I’ve had treatments with Tina & Georgie and both have been excellent. Time is taken to explain what is going on and I’m feeling the benefit already. Would highly recommend The Health Hub.

Steve Lockyer

I have been treated by several members of the Health Hub team since it opened and all have been very good.

I am currently being treated by Sam Pargeter who has expertly guided me through the identification and treatment of a rare spinal problem: a synovial cyst growing inside the spinal canal that was causing neurological symptoms, pain and an inability to walk. He referred me for an MRI at the Nuffield in Haywards Heath, received and explained the imaging report, consulted experts on next steps, and referred me to a neurosurgeon. Following successful aspiration of the cyst and steroid injections at the Nuffield, Sam is now guiding me on the journey to recovery.

Sam has been very patient with me and my multitude of questions. I have no doubt that he will continue to be patient as I rebuild my strength, stamina and dexterity.
