Scar massage
What is scar massage?
Scar massage is a common method used to help remodel scar tissue that has developed after an injury or surgery. It involves applying pressure and movement to the scar to help it’s flexibility, appearance, sensation, and feel more integrated with the body. It helps to break down adhesions, soften and flatten the scar, as well as increase blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. This promotes better healing, and can reduce sensations such as itching, pain or over-sensitivity.
Following your consultation and assessment your treatment will be tailored to focus on areas of tightness and tension around your scar and the underlying fascia, muscles and any fibrotic tissue.
C-section scar massage
Following the birth of your baby a c-section scar massage is one of the most important things you can do to care for and help your scar to heal. Initially, the scar can be painful, and if left alone, scar tissue can be problematic, causing problems in your pelvic floor muscles and the abdominal wall. A scar massage can prevent these complications and help heal your scar.
What to expect?
During your appointment we will assess your scar:
- Check the healing, and suggest any products that may promote this.
- Look at various different movements to see how it copes with the demands of the body.
- Check for a diastasis
- Suggest core exercises if needed to facilitate healing.
- Use specialist techniques to release tension and restrictions
- Give you self massage techniques to continue your recovery at home
Oncology scar massage
Improve your outcomes after cancer surgery and radiotherapy with gentle techniques to promote your recovery. We can address common complications such as cording/axillary web syndrome, diaphragm changes, numbness, pain, and restricted movement. This specialised treatment will help to improve your confidence in the area affected, reduce adhesions, stiffness in the scar, and help it feel more integrated with the rest of the body.
When can I start scar massage?
Scar massage can start as soon as your scar has healed and the scabs have fallen off. Usually around 6-8 weeks.
Introducing LymphaTouch Pro: Advanced Scar Therapy
To enhance the benefits of traditional scar massage, we utilise the LymphaTouch Pro device, a state-of-the-art tool that combines negative pressure (gentle suction) with mechanical vibration. This technology allows us to:
-
Gently lift and mobilise scar tissue
-
Stimulate lymphatic and blood circulation
-
Reduce swelling and promote healing
-
Break down adhesions beneath the surface
The treatment is non-invasive and tailored to your comfort, often leading to noticeable improvements in scar texture and mobility after just a few sessions.
What to Expect During Your Session
Your therapy session will begin with a comprehensive assessment of your scar, including its appearance, mobility, and any associated discomfort. Based on this evaluation, Jodie or Georgie will develop a personalised treatment plan that may include:
-
Manual scar massage techniques
-
Application of the LymphaTouch Pro device
-
Guidance on self-care practices and exercises
Our goal is to create a comfortable and supportive environment where you can relax and focus on your healing.
